“A Capture of Time”
KATSUYUKI YOSHIDA

Join Porter Classic’s founder We love, Katsuyuki Yoshida, as 'Katsu' shares his love for photography and his story that begins with a camera. Shot in a documentary style the short reminisce on Yoshida’s past through timeless photos and beautiful scenery around his wonderspace.

The beautiful and insightful interview does not focus on Katsu's work, but his hobbies.

Obscura is going against the grain and presenting an alternative and sentimental glimpse into the life of a successful business man. Katsu's video specifically focuses on his passion for photography. The stunning compilation takes you through snippets of his life. He narrates the video as flashes of old photographs appear. Photography is an integral inspiration for Katsuyuki and it has allowed him to record a visual memoir of his life.

Issue 11 of Obscura Magazine explores the life of an accessory veteran and gives a personal account of his hobbies.

For it's latest issue, Obscura features Katsuyuki Yoshida of iconic Japanese luggage and accessories brand Porter with an insider's look at the designer’s extensive collection of cameras. The issue also includes a deeper look at the history of famed German optics company Leica as well as the storied New England footwear label Alden.

After his first band Treebound Story (formed while he was still at school) broke up, Hawley found success as a member of Britpop band Longpigs in the 1990s. "HOTEL OF THE YEAR"
HOTEL ANTEROOM, Kyoto

HOTEL ANTEROOM KYOTO

On April 28, 2011, in between Kujo and Jujo at the south side of Kyoto Station, a 23 year-old student dormitory was renovated and reopened as a hotel and apartment, “
HOTEL ANTEROOM KYOTO”.

ARLobby.jpg

The concept of the hotel is the place where art and culture that represent the present Kyoto gather. The space unites the people around the world visiting Kyoto and the people live in the apartment.

ARGarden.jpg

The hotel provides the guests with the comforts of gathering of friends, while also functioning as an anteroom where they can prepare themselves for a trip into Kyoto’s city center. The apartments provide a living space in which residents can enjoy an exciting lifestyle with like-minded individuals. It is a new style of space without too much elaboration and is a mixture of both ordinary and extraordinary. The guests and the residents can feel the lifestyle and the culture of the city that are always changing.

ARArt.jpg

The public space, which consists of a lounge, a library, a gallery, and a restaurant all lining up from the entrance, gathers cultures such as art, music, and design to be sent out. It also provides the guests with a space to communicate with each other. Various events are planned here, connecting things around the world with Kyoto itself, mixing them together, and creating something new.

ARRestaurant.jpg

You will meet exciting lifestyles through the events relating to art and music as well as the daily communication with the travelers visiting the hotel.

3 reasons to go there:
  1. Perfect place to stay in Kyoto. Tourists can book a room in their hotel, people from around can book an apartment.
  2. The restaurant is a great place to hang out.
  3. You can also expect exhibitions, events and more gatherings.

FUJIFILM X10

The Fuji X10 is remarkably small. However, it feels nice in your hand. It seems larger than a Canon G series camera but thinner and more elegant. Everything feels like it’s in the right place here, although the Canon G series cameras are also quite good.

The top of the camera features a hot shot in the middle. To the right of that is the function dial for the user to change shooting modes. Plus there is a shutter release with threading for a cable release. To the right of those are the exposure compensation dial and a function button. On the left where the camera says Fujifilm X10 is the pop-up flash.

*Porta's BD Gift!*

The Fujifilm X10 essentially brings together the best features of many of its rivals - a bright, reasonably versatile zoom and a high quality glass viewfinder. Add to this its relatively large EXR sensor and enthusiast-friendly manual control and customization options, and it's a very compelling little camera.
