All about Anni B. Sweet
Anni B. Sweet is the stage name of the cantautora Ana Lopez, born in Malaga in 1987. She felt an early vocation by the musical race, realising his first compositions to the 9 years. She entered the formation of several groups in his native Malaga until she started off for Madrid in search of greater projection.
There one was with the support of the Humanity band, with which she collaborated until beginning his race alone. In this occasion she received the support of artists like Javier Doria of ” The Melocotons” and Brian Hunt. After spreading widely in Internet, to realise several tours being accompanied to artists like Antonio Fertile valley, entering the musical environment adjustment of the series hunting of men and to appear in radio 3 signed a contract with the discográficas Arindelle and Subterfuge Record.
The 28 of April of 2009 came to the light their first disc Start, Restart, Undo. Anni B. Sweet mainly writes her letters in English, and its style, smooth and melancholic, drinks of influences of acoustic music, folk and indie MGP. The young singer-songwriter began to make a name for herself on independent music circuits. She will hold her first concert on Mallorca on the 22nd of May to share her hot-off-the-presses album.
The sweetness of her voice provided the name for this artist, who has musically christened herself Anni B. Sweet. Her real name is Ana López, a Málaga native who left her hometown two years ago to try her luck in Madrid with just a handful of songs written in English. And she’s made it.
The first springboard for this twenty-something was her page on MySpace, where she uploaded the songs she had recorded for a demo along with Brian Hunt and Javier Doria. Shortly afterwards, she won the mock-up contest sponsored by Arindelle Records and Ego, which led to the release of her first album. It is called ‘Start Restart Undo’ and was launched less than a month ago, on the 28th of April.
Even though she would rather not be pigeonholed into a single style, Anni B. Sweet’s music betrays influences from folk, pop and a more private style that is embellished with an exceedingly lovely voice. The record contains 11 songs in English, all of them composed by the artist herself, and one in Spanish, ‘Tumbado en mi moqueta azul’, by César Fernández.
Anni B. Sweet is now coming to Mallorca to offer her very first concert on the island, held to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Sa Riba cultural association.
Her songs are stories about encounters, the brushing of skin, plans gone wrong and observations on life. Songs like “Motorway” and “Again” bode very well for the future of Anni B Sweet.
Kids always make great subjects for a documentary, not only because of the potential for exploring the parent-child relationship, but also because they wear their emotions on their sleeves and, well, let’s face it… kids say the darndest things! (For some great examples of cool docs about kids, check out Jay’s previous list of Five Films about Kids.) Seeing kids and teenagers in competitions can make for an even more compelling watch, which is why I’m excited about Jamie Jay Johnson’s Sounds Like Teen Spirit.
The movie follows four kids from ages 10 to 15 as they take part in the Junior Eurovision Songwriting Contest. It’s like Spellbound meets Rock School, but with an international flavour. Clearly the many different personalities and backgrounds come into play here, but like all competition documentaries, I can only hope it culminates in a tense nail-biting finale. The movie is currently playing in select theatres in the U.K., but unfortunately there no word on a North American release as of yet. In the late 90's, an almost comically morose indie pop group called The Verna Cannon (Cargo/Headhunter) once performed for an audience of 7-year olds (at the request of a teaching assistant friend). Surprised and a little perplexed by the rather melancholy concert, one little boy earnestly remarked, "Your music makes me sleepy."
And while the band got many an appreciative chuckle over the comment, singer/guitarist Molly Ledford also walked away thinking she would like to play for children again with a new band project directed at a younger audience. In 2003, Molly enlisted fellow Verna Cannon bandmate Jay Barry (snare) and multi-instrumentalist JP Stephens (bass, mandolin, harmonica) to form Lunch Money. Focusing her writing, which had been described as "full of memories left in a shoebox in the dusty corners of your brain" (Spin.com), on the stuff of childhood, Molly soon accumulated a new catalog of songs about such things as wishing for a pet dog, getting up the nerve to ride a roller coaster, and twirling around in rain and sun beneath an umbrella. The band's debut CD Silly Reflection has been warmly received by children's radio shows and music writers.
Design Museum has joined forces with Beefeater 24 to celebrate the fearlessly progressive spirit of London’s greatest creative minds, past and present. At the heart of the exhibition are fifteen commissions from some of London’s most dynamic creatives, as a group they demonstrate the diverse approaches to design in London. Among the participants in the exhibition are Zaha Hadid, Tom Dixon, Paul Smith and others.
Paul Smith created a rabbit rubbish bin for the city of London. The ‘New London Rubbish Bin’ will be popping up in Covent Garden and Holland Park for a four-month trial period from 28th May. The giant rabbit bins, with ears that light up when anyone puts rubbish in them, are Paul Smith’s contribution to Super Contemporary – an exhibition which opens on 3rd June 2009 at the Design Museum.

Trashcan Sinatras - In The Music (2009)
The Trash Can Sinatras, now generally known as Trashcan Sinatras, are a Scottish band who began in Irvine, Scotland in 1987. Their largest hit single was “Obscurity Knocks” taken from their first album Cake. The follow-up I’ve Seen Everything was released in the UK, USA and Japan in 1993, followed in 1996 by the UK-only album A Happy Pocket. (Note: The single “Hayfever” (1993) from I’ve Seen Everything may be considered a bigger hit than “Obscurity Knocks.” ) After their record company Go! Discs folded, the band continued to record and play live, issuing various CD’s and demos via their website to a small but devoted band of followers. They finally returned in 2004 with Weightlifting which was warmly received by critics, and the band completed a 25 date US tour in October/November 2004. They had follow up U.S. tours in December 2004 and in April and May 2005, while also extensively touring Scotland, England, Ireland, Japan and Australia during 2004-2006.
They are currently working on their fifth album titled In The Music. The band expects the album to be released in early 2009. A single, “Oranges and Apples”, was released as a download-only single on 13 October 2008. The song was inspired by Syd Barrett, one of the founding members of Pink Floyd. The single was released in connection with The City Wakes, a festival which took place in Cambridge and London in October 2008. The festival is a tribute to Barrett and intended to raise funds and awareness for mental health issues and the arts. The band is donating proceeds from the download to the Syd Barrett charitable trust.
