"Just a Friend" is a 1989 comedic and romantic hip hop song by rapper Biz Markie, in which he alternates between rap and singing. It was also his only successful single, reaching the #9 position on the Billboard charts.

The song samples are from the original 1968 song "You Got What I Need" (1968) by singer/songwriter Freddie Scott. It was later named the 81st best one-hit wonder, and was number 100 on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop.

The Wackness Official Movie Soundtrack Mixtape

The Sony Pictures Classics coming of age tale, "The Wackness," is right around the corner, so appropriately enough, the hip-hop heavy soundtrack is coming out on just a short few weeks in advance in June 24 via Jive/Zomba (we also have a first look at the CD artwork).

The film chronicles a troubled teenage drug dealer (the up and coming Josh Peck), who trades therapy sessions for pot with his drug-addled psychiatrist (Sir Ben Kingsley). Their already-weird relationship is complicated when the hip-hop loving dealer falls for the doctor's daughter (played by 2008's soon-to-be indie It girl, Olivia Thirlby). The dramedy also features rapper Method Man as a Jamaican drug connection, Mary-Kate Olsen as a fruity hippie and Famke Janssen as Kingsley's estranged wife. It's aiming to be this year's "Juno," but it still remains to be seen if it can reach those unexpected heights.

The hip-hop centric soundtrack (the film is set in 1994) features Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Method Man, Wu-Tang's Raekwon, A Tribe Called Quest and more. We're hoping a separate disc of composer David Torn's sun-stroked score is released eventually, it's quite good stuff (Torn also scored, the awesome heavy metal doc "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" and "Lars And The Real Girl"). The Wackness hits theaters on July 3 in limited release and it will presumably grow and build from there. Director Jonathan Levine has already released two Mixwit mixtapes of music inspired from the film and songs he inititally wanted in the film, but just wouldn't fit. All about Biz Markie

Biz Markie is an East Coast hip hop artist best known for humorous singles like “Just a Friend” and “Pickin’ Boogers.” He has been labeled The Clown Prince of Hip-Hop. His career began in the 1980s.

In 1992, Biz recorded a song called “Alone Again,” but Gilbert O’Sullivan claimed the track featured an unauthorized sample of his hit “Alone Again (Naturally),” and served Biz papers. His career was quite damaged from the lawsuit, and Biz ducked out of the harshest glare of the limelight for the remainder of the 1990s. He did do a bit of work with Len, Will Smith and the Beastie Boys. He had a part in Men In Black II as well. During this time he developed his DJ skills. He could scratch using his prodigious stomach.


In 2003, Biz began recording again. And in 2005, Biz appeared on VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club, and won. In 2008, Biz can currently be seen on the popular children’s’ show “Yo Gabba Gabba” performing various beat box segments.
