“ We like to think of ‘freestyle’ as the ultimate marriage between creativity and play ”
Created by fashion photographer Jason McGlade, the magazine is about fashion photography, art and design and comes with a free frisbee – which would explain the constant frisbee playing. The magazines main ‘USP’, as marketing types say, is the circular design which enables it to fit inside the frisbee it comes in. The frisbees are made by a different artist each issue and the first was created by Eley Kishimoto. The circular design could have been dismissed as gimmicky (we’ve seen enough gimmicks lately – We’re talking to you US Esquire) but it’s obvious that it’s a design they’ve had in mind since day one.

Freestyle Magazine Launch
So, last night, next to that big red bus near the Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, Freestyle MagazineEley Kishimoto. The bi-annual magazine fits perfectly inside the frisby - yes, a round magazine - and has everything from fashion editorials and pages of monkey faces to delicious cake recipes. It has a crafty, whimsical feel, a little like recently departed (in print form anyway) Amelia's Magazine, except not as girlie.
You can grab a copy at RD Franks, Magma, Borders etc. Except not Borders on Oxford Street as that branch is shutting down. Terrible news. It's been bought out by New Look. Even worse news...
