当Clusterでも逐一その動向に注目しているギャラリー ポータークラシック（Gallery Porter Classic）にて、通弾第23弾となる展示「British Bicycle展」がスタートした。

1950年代から1980年代に生まれた手作業で削りだされたパーツや、今では使われる事の無くなった機構を使用した名品と呼ばれる自転車の数々に フィーチャーした今回のイベントでは、そのタイトル通り、ブリティッシュバイクの世界観の一部を展示、販売。自転車好きならずとも一見の価値ありと言え る、充実した内容となっている。

なお、開催期日は今月末、7月31日（日）まで。近くに寄った際には、一度足を運んでみることとしよう。

さて今日は、Gallery Porter Classicにて開催中「British Bicycle展」をご紹介したいと思います。

先日1st Fridayのお知らせをいたしましたが、ご覧頂きましたか？マイノリティレッブ　トウキョウがある、インターナショナルアーケードでは毎月第1金曜日に 「1st Friday」と称し、お隣りGallery Porter Classicでの企画展スタートに合わせてカジュアルなドリンクパーティーを開催しています。同じくインターナショナルアーケード住民の私たちも、お勧 めのフィンガーフードを用意し盛り上げているのです。

・・・そもそもどうして「1st Friday」なのか？・・・

実は、Gallery Porter Classicだけで開催しているオリジナル企画ではなく、LAやハワイなど海外ではポピュラーなイベントです。Porter Classicの吉田玲雄さんがLAやハワイにお住まいの頃お気に入りのギャラリーで開催されていたらしく、新しい企画展と共に仲間と楽しんだとの事。ハ ワイのダウンタウンでは、ギャラリーのみならずショップ、バー、レストランなど色々なショップでアートイベントを開催したりするらしいです。世界中で楽し んでいる第1金曜日、一緒に参加できる貴重な時間って嬉しいですよね。

前置きが長くなってしまいましたが、そんなGallery Porter Classicでは今月、「British Bicycle展」を開催しています。

It’ll need some time bedding in, but on first inspection Skying seems a periodically inspired — if slightly uneven — follow-up to Primary Colours. Which is fine, since even that record wasn’t all killer, lest we forget — it’s just that one had the shock of the new on its side. We’re still struggling with some of the baggier overtures, to be honest, but this’ll do absolutely no harm to The Horrors’ burgeoning rep for slyly reinventing the psychedelic wheel. And they look like an actual, proper band! We’re beginning to forget what that looks like nowadays.

Expo, the new Ghent-based band from Belgium, manages to deliver some powerful and extremely catchy feel good synth/electro-pop tunes. The first Expo track, I Don’t Mind, immediately gained national attention and it's clear it's going to get even bigger than this. Watch these guys over the next few months, as you'll be hearing and seeing a lot more of them.

Boredom and solitude are two things most musicians don't wear well. Once detachment starts to kick in, terrible things tend to happen - hard drugs, loose women, broken television sets, you know the picture. But when French electro maverick Yuksek found himself more or less bored with the self-serving demands of the dancefloor and all too often alone on tour, solely accompanied by his collection of synths and FX boards, he wisely decided to avoid the aforementioned trappings and pour his heart and soul into song. Yuksek's first single 'On A Train' shudders with a twitchy new wave bass line and explodes with chirpy synths and a jumpy melody. Proof that Yuksek hasn't totally abandoned the club kids 'On A Train' is a continuous crescendo of guitars and swooshing sounds that's destined to become a live favourite! Where Vek truly excels is creating simple, catchy tracks with lyrics and beats that become ingrained in your memory. “We Do Nothing” is filled with brash bursts of percussion and a smooth breakdown featuring static and playful synths. “We do nothing with our time/you’ll have to listen now/that is all that I can do,” Vek repeats, perhaps instructing fans on how to handle his return. A lesson in spelling comes courtesy of “A.P.O.L.O.G.Y.”, swapping severe bass with frantic synths and an unforgettable chorus.

A hiatus of such length leaves fans expecting Vek to deliver. Though his sound hasn’t changed much, it is clear Vek has matured. “Close Mic’ed” best represents this seasoned Vek: a gloomy track with soft vocals over an ominous snyth and melancholy backing beats. It’s unlike anything he’s done previously. How long before the next Vek release remains to be seen, but Leisure Seizure will be stuck in your head long after you quit listening.

Vanessa Brown (born 24 Oct ‘83, known professionally as
VV Brown & V.V. Brown), is an English recording artist,
songwriter and producer signed to Universal’s Island Records
in the UK and to EMI’s Capitol Records in the USA.

Vanessa Brown released her debut album,
Travelling Like the Light, in July 2009. The album was preceded
by limited non-chart eligible releases of Crying Blood and Leave!,
as well as a third single entitled Shark in the Water,
which peaked at #34 in the UK Singles Chart,
making it her most successful single to date.

Brown wrote the music and plays instruments on the album.
It is inspired by 1950s and electronic music as well as
sounds emitted from Game Boy and Nintendo.
Most of the lyrics on the album are about a failed affair Brown endured.
On 5 December 2008, she was nominated for the BBC’s Sound of 2009 award,
alongside acts including Little Boots and Lady Gaga.

If Steve McQueen was the King of Cool, John V. Lindsay was without a doubt the Mayor of Cool. He was in fact mayor of New York City from 1966 – 1973, and though not exactly the blue-blooded WASP some make him out to be, he certainly exuded an aristocratic elegance and a Kennedy-esque sense of effortless style. A graduate of the Buckley School, St. Paul’s School and Yale, where he joined Scroll and Key, the tall, athletic Lindsay was a Navy gunnery officer during World War II, earning five battle stars through action in the invasion of Sicily and a series of landings in the Pacific theater.

Early on in his political career in Congress Lindsay caused a stir by opposing legislation to combat communism and pornography, but defeated William F. Buckley and others for the Mayor’s office in ’65. He maneuvered gracefully through some of the city’s worst crises, including the transport workers, teachers and sanitation strikes, earning a Life magazine cover in May of 1968 on “The Lindsay Style” with the tagline “Cool Mayor in a Pressure Cooker”. Here we give you some outtakes of the photos. Lindsay almost snagged the Democratic presidential nomination in ’72 as well, nearly saving us from Nixon. Imagine having had James Bond in the White House instead of Tricky Dick….
