IT'S all about
"new classicism with a rebel edge"
for Prada's spring/summer 2009 campaigns
Prada is giving a whole new spin to its men’s wear ad campaign for Spring with the help of former Dior Homme designer Hedi Slimane.
"Easter is here and in Hedi Slimane’s world everyone hunts for black and white eggs in their backyards. Don’t to be misled by the title written in true tabloid spirit, Prada have not consulted Slimane to design a collection for the Italian designer house. What the two parties have joined brains for is Prada’s SS09 campaign ad.
This is the first time Slimane has worked with Prada on such a project. Slimane, who resumed his photography career following his exit from Dior last year, took black and white portraits of Louis and Claude Simonon, sons of Paul and Tricia Simonon, the bass player and manager of Punk band The Clash. In a statement, Prada said the brothers were photographed “in moments of reflection and introspection. It is a symbolic yet understated approach to desire in men’s wear; a new classicism with a rebel edge.” The Simonons are still in school in England and neither have previously modeled before or worked with Slimane. The artist has strong ties to the music world and published a photography book entitled, “Rock Diary,” earlier this year.
Ex-designer at day and photographer at night Slimane’s gloomy work of art in keeping him busy during his time away from needles, textiles and drawing boards. High contrast and deep shadows is what Prada wanted for their campaign photos and that’s exactly what they got. Artistic but punchy every single frame has what it takes to look right in an art gallery exhibiting modern photography. There is always some Yin and Yang, and for this French-Italian project the undesired package that came with putting Slime in charge of this mesmerising campaign is Dior Homme.
Hedi Slimane is major in the fashion world having been the creative genius behind wildly popular Dior Homme. He is also major in the world of photography where his dark imagery still manages to capture beauty despite its melancholy tone.Fashion x Art.Article and Pics via ILuwFashion.Hit the link for more.

Miuccia Prada, who is in her late 50s, is the granddaughter of the house's eponymous founder, Mario Prada, a Milanese luggagemaker. Miuccia has taken her family's name and spread it far and wide, applying it to everything from bamboo-heeled shoes to rubber-soled sneakers, gazar skirts and tie-dyed sweaters. In the process, she has been consistent for the most part only in her fearlessness. "When they tell me something won't sell, that is when I want to make it," she has often said, alluding to her choices in fabrics and silhouettes.

His latest series of black and white photography places the acclaimed designer into a project featuring Louis and Claude Simonon, sons of Paul and Tricia Simonon, the bass player and manager of Punk band The Clash. Although still students in England and never having modeled before, both Simonon’s produce first rate imagery with ease, photographed “in moments of reflection and introspection”.
