The profile of SweetCoffee (Patrick Bruyndonx, Raffaele Brescia and Bibi Diabokua) can be sketched in terms of past achievements, but the band can only be truly defined in terms of its evolving future.

Naked City (2007) offers living proof of this.


The Belgian trio quickly won a large and faithful audience with Memory Lane (2004) and its successor Perfect Storm (2005). But it was apparent from the start that their vitality would lead to constant growth and continual surprises. Today the formula sounds maturer and more exciting than ever. Smoothly recognizable continuity is spiced with lively sparks of innovation.


Songs like Don’t Need To, Holdin’ On, Special Kind of Feeling and New Day have been given extensive airplay, were welcomed in many thousands of living rooms and found their way into numerous compilations at home and abroad.


Yet it is SweetCoffee’s live shows that have always been the spearhead of their music. Fans were given the unexpected bonus of a real live performance with all the thrust and energy this entails.

The band’s long live performance background audibly adds substance to Naked City, the third and easily the strongest album yet presented by Patrick, Raffa and Bibi. Their live experience has increased their grip on song structure and creative variation and has led to the enriching introduction of organic instruments such as sax, acoustic guitar and piano


There is no abrupt change of style. For instance the groovy PlayDowntown (the album’s first single) preserves the familiar SweetCoffee sound. It is nocturnal and full of atmosphere and makes you see - with closed eyes - the street lights and neon signs of a late-night “naked city”. PlayNever Better shows singer Bibi at her best, in a piano-driven souldance song that will find its natural habitat in a trendy club as well as on the night radio.

Naked City raises SweetCoffee to new heights and makes it increasingly difficult to pigeon-hole the band. So many facets are combined here that the growth potential is endless.

Who else captures the undivided attention of house, pop, soul and jazz fans? Who has the skill and courage to translate this varied material into electrifying live shows? Who has shown the industry that international success (in Holland and the UK, even in Russia) can be achieved without their assistance? Who recently received warm praise from Lionel Richie (after an appearance in his supporting programme)?

FANTASTIC MR. FOX is visionary director Wes Anderson’s first animated film, utilizing classic handmade stop motion techniques to tell the story of the best selling children’s book by Roald Dahl (author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach). The film features the voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Wally Wolodarsky, Eric Anderson, Michael Gambon, Willem Dafoe, Owen Wilson, Jarvis Cocker Mr and Mrs Fox (Clooney and Streep) live an idyllic home life with their son Ash (Schwartzman) and visiting young nephew Kristopherson (Eric Anderson). But after 12 years, the bucolic existence proves too much for Mr Fox’s wild animal instincts. Soon he slips back into his old ways as a sneaky chicken thief and in doing so, endangers not only his beloved family, but the whole animal community. Trapped underground and with not enough food to go around, the animals band together to fight against the evil Farmers — Boggis, Bunce and Bean — who are determined to capture the audacious, fantastic Mr Fox at any cost.

‘The Making of Fantastic Mr. Fox’

Angus Hyland was commissioned by Jacob Lehman at Rizzoli to design the book to accompany “Fantastic Mr Fox,” the latest film by Wes Anderson. The film is based on Roald Dahl’s classic children’s novel, originally illustrated by Donald Chaffin. The book chronicles the making of the film adaptation, which uses stop-motion animation and features the voices of George Clooney as Mr. Fox, Meryl Streep as Mrs. Fox and Bill Murray as Badger.

Hyland and his team were given an overwhelming array of materials with which to work. These included: Wes Anderson’s drawings, along with his annotated scripts; pictures of props, sets and puppets; the Chaffin illustrations; stills from the film; concept designs and character development drawings; material swatches for costumes; and technical drawings and interviews with Wes and Eric Anderson, Jason Schwartzman and Liccy Dahl.

In order to cope with this vast plethora of material, the Pentagram team established a structure for the layout of the book. They decided to follow the chronological order of the story and alongside this chronology, to demarcate special sections on character development through the use of different papers.

The main characters are introduced in the special sections. Each section starts and finishes with a full-bleed image. The sections provide an explanation of the process from early sketches through character development, fabric samples and costume designs to the final puppet.

The start of each chapter features a page from Anderson’s annotated script giving an insight into the thoughts behind the creation. Frequently working remotely, Anderson had to communicate via email with the animators on set and these emails also feature in the book.

Wes Anderson was closely involved in the book design. He provided Hyland with his starting point, the book Truffaut by Truffaut, and worked in conjunction with the Pentagram team, approving overall structure, layouts and use of font.

The attention to detail lavished on the film itself is mirrored in the book with the cover material being chosen to mimic Mr Fox’s corduroy suit whilst the endpapers match the cream of his shirt. The book also contains full bleed pages from “White Cape,” the comic maquette read by Mr. Fox’s mopey schoolboy son, Ash.

The Gentlewoman is a new fashion glossy masterminded by Jop van Bennekom, the man behind publications like Butt & Fantastic Man, which happens to be one of our favorite magazines in the world. The first issue features Phoebe Philo, Celine's creative director, stepping in front of David Sims' lens for the cover shoot and we can't wait to see the rest. The first issue of the mag will hit newsstands on March 22nd.

From the founders of Fantastic Man – preview of long-awaited The Gentlewoman, first real issue will be launched in 2010.

Celine’s creative director, Phoebe Philo, gets the honors for the launch issue of The Gentlewoman, the sister magazine to Fantastic Man that hits newsstands on 22 March 2010. Inside is a profile of Philo and a shoot by David Sims, styled by Camilla Nickerson with the designer posing in her own clothes and both vintage and current Celine looks. “It’s about modernity and women that are just fantastic,” says Penny Martin, the biannual magazine’s editor in chief to WWD. “Phoebe was very candid about herself, her mother and silhouette and inspirations.”

Contributors in the 148-page launch issue include design critic Alice Rawsthorn, fashion designer Louise Gray and model Daisy Lowe. The new fashion title will have a circulation of 72,000!

March 22nd marks the debut of The Gentlewoman, a Dutch biannual magazine we can't wait to get our hands on.

It was love at first sight when we saw the cover of The Gentlewoman, the new sister magazine to Dutch publication Fantastic Man. Featuring the timeless beauty of Celine's creative director Phoebe Philo, WWD reports that the feature on Philo was shot by David Sims and styled by W's Camilla Nickerson (two of our favorites). The editor in chief, Penny Martin, says that the magazine is “about modernity and women that are just fantastic."

The cover, with its simple, pale peach border and black and white photograph, harkens back to a simpler era in publishing, before the days of neon lettering and exclamation points (ie, "584 pages of fashion!"); plus we're all about women who are "just fantastic."

If the feature on Philo weren't enough (she was shot wearing her own clothes and a mix of vintage and contemporary Celine designs, swoon) contributors to the issue include designer Louise Gray, model Daisy Lowe, and critic Alice Rawsthorn.
